Getting Your First Tattoo in Huntsville — What to Expect
Getting your first tattoo should be exciting, not intimidating. Here’s the entire process, start to finish, with nothing sugar-coated.
It starts with a free consultation (Thursday–Sunday, 12:00–5:30 PM at Cherno Ink). We talk through your idea, look at placement on your actual body, and I give you a real price range. You don’t need a finished idea — a direction is enough. If your idea won’t work well as a tattoo, I’ll tell you and suggest what will.
Size and placement: first tattoos often get requested too small. Detail needs room to age well — I’ll show you the size your idea actually needs. Forearms, upper arms, and calves are friendly territory for a first piece: visible when you want, coverable when you need, moderate on pain.

Session day — and does it hurt?
A $500 deposit books your session day (it comes off the final price — it’s not an extra fee). Before your session: sleep well, eat a real meal, hydrate, and skip alcohol the night before. Wear comfortable clothes that expose the area.
You’ll see your design for the first time on session day — I prepare multiple options and we fine-tune together before anything permanent happens. Then: stencil, placement check in the mirror, and we start. It’s one client per day — nobody is waiting behind you, and you get breaks whenever you need them.
Does it hurt? Honestly — some. Most people describe it as an annoying scratch or a sunburn feeling: very manageable on arms and legs, sharper near bones, ribs, and joints. Almost every first-timer says the same thing afterward: “that was easier than I expected.”

Aftercare, healing, and after
You leave with exact aftercare instructions (they’re also on the FAQ page any time you need them). Expect a few days of tenderness, then peeling like a sunburn around days 3–7, and fully settled skin in about a month. Follow the instructions and your healed result will look like the fresh one.
If anything about the healed piece needs attention, reach out — touch-up requests are handled on a reasonable-and-valid basis, no arbitrary deadline games.
Under 18? 16+ is possible with a parent or guardian present and a birth certificate. Nervous about a big first piece? Micro realism is a great entry point.
