My session rates — the short answer

I price by the session, not by the hour. A full-size session is $1,700 — about 5.5–6.5 hours of tattooing, covering an area roughly the size of a letter page (8.5"×11"), depending on design and placement. A half-size session is $900 (about 3.5 hours, roughly 5.5"×8"), though I book very few of these — most serious work is best scoped as full sessions. There are no design fees and no consultation fees. The number I quote you is the number you pay.

What do bigger projects cost?

Because I work in sessions, large-scale projects are easy to estimate honestly:

A half sleeve (arm or leg) takes 2 full sessions — $3,400. A full arm sleeve takes about 4.5 sessions — roughly $7,650. A full leg sleeve runs 5–6 sessions — $8,500–$10,200. A back piece runs 4–6 sessions — $6,800–$10,200. Your exact number gets locked in at a free consultation, where I can see the placement and your skin in person. That's also why I don't quote prices over the phone — a quote made without seeing the canvas is a guess, and I don't guess.

Why session pricing beats hourly pricing

Hourly pricing punishes you for choosing a careful artist — the slower the work, the bigger your bill. Session pricing flips that: you know the total before we start, and the time pressure is on me, not you. It also means I never have a reason to rush your piece to fit someone else's appointment. For large-scale black and grey realism, where a single portrait can take a full day, that predictability is the difference between planning a sleeve and being surprised by one.

What actually drives the price of a tattoo?

Four things: size (more skin, more sessions), detail density (a hyper-detailed realism piece takes longer than bold traditional work of the same size), placement (some areas are slower, more technical work), and the artist's specialization. What doesn't drive my pricing: haggling, walk-in discounts, or "simple" designs — a small piece done right still gets the same standards as a sleeve.

How deposits work

A $500 non-refundable deposit books a regular session. It's not an extra fee — it comes off your final session, holds your date, and covers the design work I start before you arrive. My books typically run 5–6 months out. If you don't want to wait, I offer off-day sessions (Monday–Wednesday) at $3,000 for a full day with a $500 deposit, and a free cancellation list that gets you first access when a booked slot opens up.

Is a cheap tattoo ever a good deal?

You'll find $50 flash deals in every city, and for some things they're fine. But a tattoo is the one purchase you make that's still on your body in 40 years — and fixing bad work costs more than doing it right the first time. A large share of my schedule is cover-ups of tattoos people got because they were cheap. The honest math: the most expensive tattoo you'll ever buy is the one you have to pay to cover up.
